Webb detects material that may expose Neptune’s violent past
Researchers used the James Webb Space Telescope to identify magnesium-rich clay minerals on three small inner moons of Neptune—Proteus, Larissa and Galatea—and in its dusty rings. Such minerals require prolonged contact between liquid water and rock, yet these moons are too small and cold to have produced them internally. The team therefore infers that the material came from the interior of larger ancient moons shattered after Neptune captured Triton, a Pluto-sized object from the Kuiper Belt. The promise is methodological: spectroscopy can reveal otherwise inaccessible planetary interiors without landing a probe. The uncertainty is equally important. Webb directly detected spectral signatures; the collision history is the best-fitting reconstruction, not a filmed event. X Money puts a bank account-like layer inside a social network
X has launched X Money to a limited group of invited paying members in the United States. Users can send money to one another and receive a Visa debit card; the service advertises a 6% yield on balances above $1,000 and 3% cashback on eligible purchases. It is not a new bank: Cross River Bank provides the accounts and payment infrastructure behind the X branding. Computer-science enrolment falls as AI courses spread across disciplines
